Sample letterhead to measure

Two finished PDF files straight from the studio — to look at, print and check. You do not have to take our word for anything: every figure on this page can be measured in the files.

The files

Sample letterhead, DIN A4 The print-ready standard version, 1 page, 300 DPI. This is exactly what the studio produces when you click “Standard PDF”. 492 KB. Sample for print shops Production format 216 × 303 mm with 3 mm bleed and eight crop marks. The content stays exactly where it is. 494 KB.

The data in the sample is invented. Company name, address, phone number, register number and bank details are freely chosen examples. This is not a real business letter — it is a test piece.

Measured values of the A4 file

These values were read out of the generated PDF — not from source code, but from the embedded image data of the finished file. The scale is 11.8143 pixels per millimetre, which is 300 DPI.

The print-shop version compared

With the bleed export the content is not stretched — it is inset by exactly 3 mm. After trimming it therefore sits in precisely the same place as in the standard file:

Trim size and bleed are stored in the PDF. Both files contain a TrimBox; the print-shop version additionally a BleedBox. A print shop can therefore read the trim size and bleed directly instead of inferring them from the dimensions.

Check it yourself in four steps

Check the page size. Open the PDF and look at the document properties. The page size must read 210 × 297 mm — not 8.27 × 11.69 inches and not 215.9 × 279.4 mm.
Measure the margins. Use the measuring tool of your PDF reader to check the distance from the left sheet edge to where the text begins. It should be 25 mm.
Measure the marks. Read the height of both fold marks and the punch mark from the top sheet edge: 105 mm, 148.5 mm and 210 mm.
Do the practical test. Print on A4 — important: actual size, no page scaling. Fold the sheet, put it in a DIN Lang window envelope. The recipient address must sit completely inside the window.

The fourth step is the decisive one. It uncovers in a minute mistakes that stay invisible on screen.
